The Core Fashion Kenya 2018

On 28th March, the Tamarind Tree Hotel in Carnivore, Nairobi, Kenya was growing with fashion’s elite who showed up in style for The Core Fashion Kenya’s 2nd edition. Conceptualised by Kenyan born Linda Murithi, The Core Fashion Kenya was created to stabilize the fashion industry in Kenya and Africa as a whole in a bid to increase consistency and growth in the field of all things fashion. Murithi who is also the owner of ‘In The Bag Ltd’, started this platform upon seeing the opportunity to make the Business of Fashion more plausible in Africa.

The marvelous event was produced/directed by Dorothy Oliech of Mochez Models and headline sponsored by Follow Me Talk, who have been passionate about The Core Fashion Kenya and see it as a platform that seeks to do something entirely different to the spate of fashion weeks across the continent. Other sponsors include Mac Cosmetics, Tamarind Tree hotel, Hennessy/Moet, Taxify, Capital 98.4, Rift Vally Leather, Mochez Models, Amadiva, and Zumi.

Designers cosily interacted with international buyers including Opening Ceremony, Barneys, Dover Street Market, Design Collective and many more, at the opening cocktail and dinner on the 27th of March. British- Nigerian designer Tokyo James and Rift Valley Leather which develops and manufactures the highest quality leather and canvas brought some of their best designs to the event. Also showcasing their splendid creations were Loin Cloth & Ashes, a fashion brand for women who want modern, functional, relevant design with a Neo African point of view, Kenyan designers Anyango Mpinga and Katungulu Mwendwa as well as Senegalese designer Adama Paris who is also the founder of Black Fashion Week Paris and Dakar Fashion Week.
